Community tennis

Enjoy tennis every Monday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Meet at the courts behind Westfield Academy and Central School to play tennis. The plan is to have enough people to organize several double matches.

Apple Seed Preschool Registration Open House

Apple Seed Christian Preschool has begun registration for the 2014-2015 school year. Two-day and three-day class options are available for children ages 3 to 5. A registration open house will be held on Thursday, May 1 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Parents and children are welcome to visit the preschool, meet the teachers and register. The preschool is housed in the First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Main St., Westfield. For more information, call 326-3110.

Great Westfield Read Aloud

Children ages 4 through Grade 3 are invited to come to Patterson Library at 6:30 p.m. to hear community members share wonderful stories. Registration appreciated - call 326-2154. Refreshments will follow this special library story sharing event.

Parkinson's support group at Westfield Memorial Hospital

Westfield Memorial Hospital's Parkinson's Disease Support Group Meeting is held the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Rummage, Clothing and Bake Sale

The Westfield United Methodist Church will be holding its spring Rummage, Clothing and Bake Sale on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 101 East Main Street, Westfield. The event kicks off Friday, running from 6 - 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. with a bag sale starting at noon.

Library Schedules Scrabble Tourney

Jason Kinem and Diane Pugh enjoy a game of Scrabble at Prendergast Library, which will hold its second annual Scrabble tournament from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Admission is $15 to benefit the library. Sign up at the Information Desk or in the Fireplace Room the morning of the event. There will be refreshments for sale and prizes for winners. The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For information, call 484-7135.

Roast Chicken Dinner

A Roasted Chicken dinner will be held at Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church, Saturday, May 3rd from 4:30-6:3:0 pm. Along with a half chicken, the meal includes potato salad, baked beans, dessert and beverage for an $8.00 donation. Carry-outs available. The church is located on Route 430 at Meadows Road in Dewittville.

Rummage, Clothing and Bake Sale

The Westfield United Methodist Church will be holding its spring Rummage, Clothing and Bake Sale on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 101 East Main Street, Westfield. The event kicks off Friday, running from 6 - 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. with a bag sale starting at noon.

Spring Craft Bazaar

Alexander Findley Library will be holding its annual Spring Craft Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Crafters will be located inside the Water Wheel Building and the fire hall. Crafters will be selling their handmade items and baked goods for your shopping pleasure. There will be a Chinese auction with door prizes, 50/50 raffle and the kitchen will offer a homemade menu throughout the day. Admission is free. For more info call Jeff at (814) 397-4461.

St. Dominick Parish in Brocton will host their annual Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday, May 7 from 4-7 p.m. at the church hall. Dine in or take out is available. Dinner includes a generous portion of spaghetti, home made sauce and meatballs, bread, salad, refreshments and dessert. Adults are $7 and children are $5.

Friday, May 9

Wine Tasting Benefit

The Brooks Memorial Hospital Relay for Life team is sponsoring a wine tasting benefit Friday, May 9, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the 21 Brix Winery. The Winery is located at 6654 West Main Road, Portland. The $15 ticket includes live music by Nick & Andy, hors d'oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages and 3 wine tastings at the 21 Brix Wine Bar. Also available are raffle drawings and beer and wine for purchase. To purchase alcoholic beverages, one must be 21 or older and present a valid ID. Tickets are available at 21 Brix and the Brooks Memorial Hospital cashier. All proceeds will benefit the Relay for Life.

Community Breakfast

The Ripley United Methodist Church is holding an all you can eat Community Breakfast on Saturday, May 10 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. The breakfast features eggs made to order (including a variety of omelets), toast, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, corned beef hash, pancakes, O.J. and coffee. The church is located at 84 West Main, Ripley and the cost per person is $6 for all you can eat. This breakfast will benefit the Outreach Ministries.

Mother's Day Celebration Dinner

Tri-Church Parish will offer a Mother's Day Celebration dinner on May 14 at St. Dominic R.C. church on Central Ave. in Brocton.

The 6 p.m. dinner will feature beef on weck, while all who attend are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to the event, as well as tableware. Beverages and the entree will be supplied by the Tri-Church Parish women.

Aliechia Post, Director of camping, will describe Camp Findley's many retreats and youth camps available to diverse groups.

This event is open to the public and all are welcome. Sign up sheets will be posted at St. Dominic R.C. in both Brocton and Westfield.

Community Yard Sale

The North East Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Community Yard Sale on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Over 100 homes from across the borough and township will participate, rain or shine, in this much-anticipated event. Maps are available starting Wednesday, May 14 at the North East Chamber office, 17 E. Main, and Sander's Market, 109 W. Main, North East, PA. For more information, call the Chamber at 814-725-4262.

Chicken BBQ

South Ripley Fire Department is hosting a Mother's Day Chicken BBQ and Raffle. BBQ starts at noon and will be served until it's gone. Cost is $9 for adults and $7 for children. Dinner includes chicken, potato salad, applesauce, pickles, roll, coffee or punch and pie. Raffle drawings will follow the dinner. The Fire Department is located at 10268 North East/Sherman Road in Ripley.

Prevention Educator from the Chautauqua County ANEW center

The YWCA Westfield is pleased to invite the public to a presentation from Tracy Jesperson, Prevention Educator from the Chautauqua County ANEW center. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., she will talk about domestic violence awareness and prevention. If you have experienced abuse, work with or live near someone or know anyone who is being abused, this program will give you some insight and valuable information on how to help and where help is available. The program is FREE and open to all. Contact the YWCA at 326-2011 for more information.
