Forty people met for a buffet luncheon at the Mayville VFW dining room on Aug. 15. Wanda Gustafson welcomed members in the absence of Joyce Ayers. Diane Goodrich gave the invocation and Mary Carlson called the table numbers. Goodrich also read a funny story and gave advice to value our friends as they are good for one's health, according to Dr. Oz.
Members held a short business meeting with reports from the secretary and treasurer. The attendance of so many members at the Midway Park picnic was noted, with four members winning baskets.
Those members with August birthdays are Ruth Patterson, Juanita Gerring, Bob Barnes, Sandy Derbish, Paul Odell, Carlson, Nancy Peters, Richard Ressler, Bonnie Johnson, Victor Harris, Alice Paulus, Louise Richir, Dorothy Krause, Nancy Cole, Pauline Wright, Ayers and Sally Fahey.
Carl and Barb Witherow, Charles and Pauline Wright and James and Janelle Subjack celebrated anniversaries.
Members thanked the kitchen committee of Richir, Johnson and Lois Maloy.
Fred Anderson and Joanne Westphal won door prizes of Rex Wilson's sweet corn. Karen K. Heston is a new member, and the group welcomed her.
Bill Tornstrom introduced John Sipos. Tornstrom talked about the former County Home built at Dewitville in 1832 and again in 1862 after a fire destroyed the structure. He showed pictures and gave facts from daily records that were kept at that time.
The next meeting will be Sept. 5 with Lucille Miller, a singer from Jamestown, entertaining the group.
