MAYVILLE - The Chautauqua County Democratic Committee met Saturday, June 8 and unanimously endorsed Ron Johnson for County Executive, Lori Cornell for County Clerk and David Foley for District Attorney.
"I've never been a sideline kind of guy, if I see a problem I know I have to do something about it," Fredonia businessman Ron Johnson said. "Our county has a problem where our children are moving away because they don't have access to family sustaining jobs. I will help our community grow and bring economic prosperity to the region. This is the reason why I am running for County Executive."
Dunkirk native and current Jamestown resident County Legislator Lori Cornell will make her second attempt to attain the County Clerk's office after challenging incumbent Sandy Sopak in 2005. Cornell said her goal is to lead an innovative, nonpartisan operation that strives to improve customer service every day and to save taxpayers as much money as possible.
"I look forward to the opportunity to convey my vision to the people of Chautauqua County and to work hard on their behalf," Cornell said.
In addition to serving nearly two terms in the County Legislature, Cornell has held full time positions of leadership in municipal, county, state and the federal government. Further rounding out her diverse background, she has excelled in the private sector working as an independent consultant to assist small businesses in marketing and sales capacity and served as an adjunct faculty member at Jamestown Community College. She received her Master's Degree from the St. Bonaventure University School of Business and her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Notre Dame.
Dave Foley, a lifelong resident of Chautauqua County, was appointed in 2006 as Chautauqua County District Attorney under Governor Pataki. Foley would subsequently go on to win another two terms as District Attorney. The Republican District Attorney is being crossed endorsed by the Democrats for the second time.
The election for County Executive, County Clerk and District Attorney will be held on Tuesday Nov. 5.
