Father Daughter Dance
A limited number of tickets remain for the annual YWCA Father Daughter Dance. The event is set for Saturday night, June 15 in the YWCA gym from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Young ladies from kindergarten through fifth grade and their escorts are invited to an evening of dancing, refreshments and socialization. Tickets are $20 per couple and include a keepsake photo and wrist corsages for the ladies. Pre-sale tickets will be available at the YWCA office through the close of business on Friday. Open access for members of the YWCA fitness center will continue through June with a target date of Monday, July 1 for the transition to new contracts. New contracts and fee schedules have been provided to all members. Examples are available in the fitness center, and individuals are encouraged to visit the main office with questions or concerns. Features of the new system included unlimited use, family memberships and a one-time payment option. The YWCA is pleased to announce it now participates in Independent Health Insurance and will accept the fitness benefit card towards fitness use. Plans are ongoing to enroll in the Silver Sneakers Healthways health and fitness plans.
Families interested in school age childcare or pre-school day care during the summer months are invited to call the YWCA child services office at 326-4012 for more details.
Arts and Crafts Festival
The 41st annual YWCA Arts and Crafts Festival will be held Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 in Moore Park. Spaces remain for vendors who feature high quality hand crafted items. Applications and guidelines are available at the YWCA website www.ywcawestfield.org or by calling the office at 326-2011. The Y is also interested in talking with business sponsors about space in the printed program and with individuals who are willing to volunteer. Call the Y at 326-2011 for details related to the program and volunteer opportunities.
Area organizations, agencies, businesses, social clubs and individuals looking for meeting space are encouraged to consider the YWCA. Meeting rooms to accommodate 10 110 are available at reasonable rates. Arrangements can be made to use the kitchen, front porch and living room as well as the assembly room. The YWCA Westfield features five upstairs bedrooms available for rent. These guest rooms are available for short-term stays, with special arrangements needed for long-term rentals. Guests are able to access the kitchen, front porch and upstairs lounge area during their stay. Off street parking is provided. Room rates, tours and more details regarding bedroom rentals are available at the YWCA, 58 S. Portage St., Westfield.
Looking for a summer job, right here in Westfield? Have experience working with kids and like to be busy and active? The YWCA Child Services Program has part time openings for summer employment with potential for ongoing employment into the school year. The ideal candidate will be a leader with a fun loving personality and the ability to participate in physical activities with the kids. The desire to work with kids of all ages is a must. Applicants must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma and experience working with young people. The successful applicant will have leadership abilities, planning and organizational skills, enjoy working with children and youth of all ages, especially older elementary through high school and have the physical ability to participate in summer activities.
