Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

BROCTON - The Brocton-Portland Seniors celebrated the club's 55-year anniversary at the Nickel Plate Restaurant in Brocton recently with 46 members present and three guests.

President Margaret Jagoda opened the meeting introducing the entertainment singers, followed by Alberta Blakely giving the blessing and Tom DeJoe leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chicken or ham, rolls, vegetables and baked potatoes were enjoyed by the group, followed by a sing-a-long led by the musical duo Dory Johnson and Ruth Conti. Conti introduced her mother Hazel Conti. The music was a blend of songs familiar to all.

The officers were the committee of the day with table favors and gifts. Drawing winners included Pat Nixon who won the beautiful fruit basket; Julia Schrantz who won the gardening box of seeds, gloves, tools and soil; Ken Carr who won the cheese tray; and Fran Gatto who won the coffee and cookies box. Door prizes were won by Ethel Hutt and Rick Cranston.

Peg and Joe Gatto were welcomed back and Joe thanked everyone sincerely for the cards and thoughts. Lucy Frazita is home from Florida and she, too, was welcomed back. Rudy Arynardi surprised everyone as he had just gotten home from the hospital. Ruth Patterson is in the County Home and cards will be sent.

The Chautauqua County Literacy Volunteers plant sale benefit will be held May l8 and l9 at the Deakins' Barn on Route 20 in Portland. The Bud n' Bloom Garden Club will hold the annual plant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

New members are always welcome to join the Brocton-Portland Seniors. Come join the festivities Memorial Day; and Mother's and Father's Day, which will be celebrated on May 20 at noon at St. Dominic's Church in Brocton.

The date has been moved due to Memorial Day and the location has been moved because the Legion is undergoing renovations. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own table services. The committee members are Art Donovan, DeJoe, Mary Tripi and Erica Abram.
