BROCTON - When June arrives, students and school personnel know that the school year is winding down.
At the meeting of the Brocton Central School Board of Education on Thursday, June 6, middle/high school principal Jason Delcamp, elementary principal Sandra Olson and board president Thomas DeJoe spoke about the times and places for year-end school events including: the senior class trip to Cleveland, Ohio which begans Saturday, June 8 and ends Sunday, eighth grade recognition on Saturday, June 8, sports awards on Thursday, June 13, pre-kindergarten graduation, Jan DeJoeField Day for the elementary school, and class night on Friday, June 14, kindergarten graduation on Thursday, June 20, and high school graduation on Saturday, June 22.
Speaking about the field day on June 14, Olson said that volunteers are still needed for the event. The event will begin in the morning about 9:30 a.m. Anyone interested in helping should call Kathy Garnsey, the elementary secretary at 792-2100.
Concerning the eighth grade recognition, Delcamp said, "This is the first time we are doing this. There will be gifts and awards for the students."
Also on the schedule were items with impact on the larger community. The Town of Portland will hold a public meeting on its comprehensive plan in the auditorium on June 8 at 9 a.m.
Superintendent John Hertlein advised the board about the progress of the proposed centralization between the Brocton and Westfield school districts.
