Fundraising events to help Sherman’s Rural Center open community center

SHERMAN - The Rural Center in Sherman will be holding some upcoming events to raise funds for the licensing fees to open a community center.

Sherman community yard sales, Saturday, June 1: community members can sign up at Country General Store to place their sale on the map. Maps will be available Thursday, May 30 at the Country General Store and Macks Hometown Market. The cost is $10 for sign, but $5 will be refunded when the sign is returned.

Car and Motorcycle Cruise-In, Saturday, June 1 in the Sherman school parking lot from10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: $2 admission to show a car or motorcycle. Free admission for the public. Food concessions, kid entertainment and trophy's awarded by public vote, including People's Choice Car, People's Choice Motorcycle and Youth Choice. Youth basketball shooting contest at basketball court at 1 p.m., for an entry fee of $1. Prizes will be given. Silent auction being held at Mozzarella Madness.

Honor The Troops bow sale: Each yellow bow can be purchased for $3 and will be displayed at the Yorker Museum in Sherman starting Memorial Days with the soldier's name and rank on the bow. Send the donation and soldier's name and rank to: The Rural Center, P.O. Box 115, Sherman, N.Y. 14781. Orders will be taken by mail until Monday, May 20.

The Rural Center helps the youth and their families in Sherman, and the surrounding rural community by assisting them with family education, life skills training and daily mentoring and giving them a network of support that will help bring success in achieving the desired goals for their families and in their lives.
