Benefit to be held for 6-year-old Westfield child

FREDONIA - A spaghetti dinner benefit for Barbriannia Lanphere, a 6-year-old from Westfield who has been diagnosed with Arnold Chiari, will be held at the Masonic Lodge, 321 E. Main St., Fredonia on Saturday, May 4 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event will consist of a spaghetti dinner, 50/50 raffle, silent auction, bake sale and special item auction. Participants to not need to be present to win. Pre-sale tickets cost $7 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Tickets will be $8 and $4 at the door.

Arnold Chiari is a condition in which brain tissue protrudes into the spinal canal. It occurs when part of the skull is abnormally small or misshapen, pressing on the brain and forcing it downward.

Barbriannia is having brain surgery in six months, but in a few weeks, she is having surgery to think the muscles in her throat to help her breathe better at night. She is also in need of a maxillary expansion appliance not covered by her insurance.
