MAYVILLE - The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department is looking for information regarding a snowmobile which was stolen on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
According to the sheriff's office, sometime between 6 a.m. and 8:45 p.m., someone stole a 2006 Ski Doo Freestyle black and yellow snowmobile from the backyard of 11 Burton St., Mayville. MINA - Matthew McBride, 29, Esmeraldo McBride, 28, and Achilles McBride, 1, all of Monacacy Ln., Westfield, Pa., were transported to Hamot Medical Center following a personal injury accident on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
According to the sheriff's office, it investigated a personal injury accident, which occurred in the Town of Mina on Interstate 86 around 12:45 a.m. The investigation allegedly showed a tractor trailer driven by Dale Legg, 52, of Woodland Dr., Medina, Ohio had pulled off the road and onto the shoulder of the road due to poor visibility. A vehicle driven by Matthew McBride allegedly did not see the tractor-trailer and collided into the rear of the trailer. Legg did not sustain any injuries. Matthew McBride was treated and released from Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Esmeraldo McBride was initially taken to Hamot Medical Center, and later transferred to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh where she remains. Achilles McBride was initially taken to Hamot and later transferred to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh where he died from his injuries on Saturday, Feb. 23. No charges will be filed.
SHERMAN - Arthur J. Reid, Jr., 22, of Lyons Rd., Sherman was committed to the Chautauqua County Jail on a bench warrant for failure to pay fine from earlier disorderly conduct on Friday, Feb. 22.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were sent to a location to investigate an incident around 7:45 p.m. While on the scene, a record check of one of the involved parties allegedly revealed he had a valid bench warrant for failure to pay fine out of Westfield Village Court. Reid was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Westfield Village Court and was later sent to jail in lieu of $250 cash or $500 property bail.
CHAUTAUQUA - James Weise, 54, of Sherman was involved in a personal injury accident on Friday, Feb. 22.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies along with the Mayville Fire Department responded to a personal injury snowmobile accident on Trail C4 between Hannum Road and Route 430 in the Town of Chautauqua around 8:30 p.m. It appears Weise allegedly lost control of his snowmobile and struck a few trees before being ejected from the snowmobile. He was transported to WCA Hospital for treatment of injuries to his arm.
BROCTON - Jerry Bentham, 31, of Route 20, Westfield was committed to the Chautauqua County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI having a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent or higher, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, no seat belt and following too closely on Friday, Feb. 22.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to Route 20 in the Village of Brocton to a motor vehicle accident with personal injury around 9 p.m. An investigation into the incident revealed Bentham had allegedly rear-ended another vehicle and then fled the scene on foot. Bentham was allegedly located near by, and it is alleged Bentham did not have permission to be operating the car he was driving. Bentham was charged, arraigned in Portland Town Court and committed to jail in lieu of bail. The driver of the other vehicle was transported by ambulance to Brooks Memorial Hospital for treatment for apparently non life-threatening injuries.
WESTFIELD - Cynthia Marx, 57, of Minnesota St., Rochester, N.Y, Elizabeth Marx, 97, of Cass St., Westfield and Norrine Snyder, 61, of Middle-Sodus Rd., Lyons, N.Y., were involved in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday, Feb. 23.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a single vehicle accident on Route 5 in the Town of Westfield where a vehicle went off the road and struck a utility pole head on around 3 p.m. Upon arrival and further investigation, it was determined Cynthia Marx allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and veered off the road. Allegedly, as Marx was veering to the right off the road, a passenger in her vehicle attempted to get her attention, but Marx was already into some gravel and snow on the shoulder of the road. Marx's vehicle allegedly traveled off the road, down a small embankment and struck a utility pole head on causing the pole to sheer off at the base. Marx and her passengers, Elizabeth Marx and Snyder, were all transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital by Westfield EMS for their injuries. There were no charges filed.
PORTLAND - Herbert Schultz, 47, of Westfield was charged with driving while intoxicated common law, DWI per se 0.08 percent blood alcohol or higher, fail to keep right and operate motor vehicle while on mobile phone on Sunday, Feb. 24.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies allegedly observed a vehicle fail to keep right while traveling on Finley Road in the Town of Portland around 10 p.m. The suspect vehicle was allegedly stopped, and Schultz was allegedly found to be the operator. Further investigation allegedly found Schultz to be intoxicated, and he was subsequently arrested. Schultz was released with traffic tickets and is to appear in Portland Town Court on a later date.
MINA - Patti A. Smith, 52, of Findley Lake was arrested on charges of driving over hazard marking, driving while intoxicated and DWI with blood alcohol over 0.08 percent on Monday, Feb. 25.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 426 in Findley Lake around 1:45 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies noticed a vehicle had allegedly driven off the west side of the road striking a telephone pole head on. The vehicle was allegedly operated by Smith. Upon investigation, Smith was arrested and will appear in Mina Town Court on a later date.
FRENCH CREEK - James J. Kos, 57, of Royalton, Ohio was committed to the Chautauqua County Jail on charges of second-degree harassment, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest on Monday, Feb. 25.
According to the sheriff's office, it was called to Peek 'n' Peak to assist Peak security with an incident around 12:45 a.m. Kos had allegedly pushed a Peak security officer, and allegedly obstructed deputies while they were gathering information and resisted arrest when deputies went to arrest him. Kos was arraigned in Sherman Town Court by Judge VanVolkenburg and is set to appear in French Creek Town Court on a later date. Kos was committed to jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 property bail.
NORTH HARMONY - Franchesca L. Reed, 20, of Boiling Springs, Pa., was involved in a minor personal injury accident on Monday, Feb. 25.
According to the sheriff's office, Reed was allegedly traveling northbound on Panama-Stedman Road in the Town of North Harmony when she lost control of her vehicle and went off the west side of the roadway and overturned in a field around midnight. Reed was taken by the Ashville Fire Department to Westfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. No charges are expected.
