RIPLEY - The New York State Department of Transportation has announced a culvert replacement project will begin on New York Route 5 in the town of Ripley.

As a result, beginning on Thursday, Oct. 25, New York Route 5 in the vicinity of Shortman Rd., will be closed to all traffic for approximately three weeks. A posted detour will direct traffic to follow a detour route on Shortman Rd., U.S. Route 20, and PA Route 89.

Motorists are reminded fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver's license.
