Nyla J. Gehr, 72, of Sherman, N.Y., passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at her home.
She was born on May 30, 1940, in French Creek, N.Y., the daughter of the late Harry and Ella (White) Gehr.
Nyla graduated in 1958 from Sherman Central School. She then worked at Welch's, then she traveled to California, living there for a year, then she moved to Florida. She moved back to Sherman and worked in West Seneca during the week, traveling back to Sherman to be with her family. Nyla retired in 1990 when she was 50 to take care of her mother and father. She lived on the family farm until her passing.

Nyla loved her activities of bingo, cards and getting together with friends and family, traveling nightly if possible to do the activities. She also loved her cats.
Nyla is survived by her sister, Marian Hoeft of Mayville, N.Y.; three nephews, Gary (Lori) Hoeft of Port Crane, N.Y., and Steven (Debbie) Hoeft of Amherst, N.H.; two nieces, Chery (Karl) Gatto, Robert (Therese) Hoeft of South Riding,Va., Susan Hoeft of Mayville, N.Y.; 10 great-nephews; and two great-nieces.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Rex Herbert Gehr on Jan. 3, 1970, and Robert Lavern Gehr on Aug. 28, 2000.
The funeral service were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12 at the Spitzer Funeral Home, Sherman, with Pastor Rick Maas, of the Cutting Community Church, officiating. Burial was in Mina Cemetery. The family received friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
