Eugene J. Kutchmyre, 88, of 6866 Eggleston Hill Rd., Panama, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Corry Manor Nursing Home, Corry, Pa.
He was born on May 22, 1924 in Olean, N.Y., the son of the late Michael and Susie (Clark) Kutchmyre. He had worked at Murray Page Chevrolet as a mechanic where he met his wife Ruth Bradt whom he married Feb. 7, 1948. They later moved to Tonawanda, N.Y., where he started his new job with General Motors, where he was a proud employee for 20 plus years, retiring in 1975. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, having served as a cook. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and boating on Chautauqua Lake and deer hunting, which is why he made his move to the Panama area. Gene enjoyed tinkering with many items some that were broken before he started and some that were broken after. Gene also had an obsession with scratch off lottery tickets, hoping to win big someday.
Eugene is survived by two daughters, Holli (Fred) Adams of Tonawanda, N.Y., Shelly (Bruce) Stevens of Panama, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Tammy (Jerry) Fardink, Angel Adams, Amanda (Scott) Stevens, Kristen (Christian) Burr and Ashley (Bobby) Hammond; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sister, Betty Frederick.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L. Kutchmyre who died Dec. 18, 2011; daughter, Pat Trautman who died Dec. 3, 2011; grandson, Jason Trautman who died Jan. 24, 2008; and sister, Lila Archibald.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the Spitzer Funeral Home, Clymer, N.Y., with Rev. Sid Clevenger, officiating. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family received friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Panama and Ashville Volunteer Departments.
