WESTFIELD - There's something going on at the Thrifty Kitty located at 59 East Main Street in Westfield, the second hand store run by the Westfield Stray Cat Rescue.
The former office has been repurposed as a show room for the kitties available for adoption. Now, not only can all kinds of goodies like clothes, dishes, toys and more be found, but now adopting them from Kitty Land in the store can also support the stray cats.
Each day, rescue cats spend the day in Kitty Land, welcoming customers to come in, set a spell and get acquainted. Anyone who sees a particular cat or kitten they like can take some time to get to know them and possibly find themselves with a new family member.
Kitty Land is not only equipped with cat furniture and toys, but also has a comfy loveseat the cats will share with interested humans. Those who cannot adopt are still welcome to spend some time with the cats with staff permission. Children will only be allowed in Kitty Land if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The Westfield Stray Cat Rescue has been finding homes for homeless cats for five years. This is the first time it has had a building, making it easier to get the cats and kittens seen and adopted. Cats can be adopted for $40 and have been tested for disease, vaccinated and neutered/spayed. An application and references are required.
The Thrifty Kitty and its customers are the biggest source of financial support for WSCR. All the monies made go toward taking care of the cats. The store is run solely by volunteers. Anyone interested in helping should call 326-2404.
