NEW YORK (AP) — A state Supreme Court judge in Manhattan has raised the bail amount for a teen already facing manslaughter charges in a child's traffic death after he was charged with stealing from a dead woman's apartment.
Judge Gregory Carro on Wednesday raised the bond for Franklin Reyes to $50,000 from $25,000.
Reyes was charged last month with petit larceny, accused of taking jewelry, cash and wine from the apartment of a woman who had recently died. His attorney says he denies taking anything and was helping his father, the building superintendent, with a plumbing leak.
He had been facing manslaughter charges in the June 2013 death of Ariel Russo. Authorities say Reyes was fleeing police when his SUV jumped the curb and struck the little girl.
