NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say the wife of the man who videotaped an officer placing a man in an apparent chokehold has been arrested on an assault charge.
Police say 30-year-old Chrissie Ortiz was free Wednesday after a dispute with another woman who sustained bruising and swelling.
Ortiz was arrested on a Staten Island street Tuesday and issued a desk appearance ticket pending a yet to be determined court date.
Ortiz's husband, Ramsey Orta, recorded police arresting Eric Garner on July 17 because he was allegedly selling loose cigarettes on a Staten Island street.
The city medical examiner's office ruled Garner's death a homicide caused by a chokehold that is banned under police policy.
Orta was arrested Saturday on gun charges.
Police did not know whether Ortiz has an attorney.
