NYC man gets prison for promoting child porn

July 11, 2014
Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — A Queens man who pleaded guilty to sharing Internet files depicting child sexual abuse will spend two to six years in prison.

District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced the sentence Friday for 50-year-old Mauricio Gil of Flushing. He pleaded guilty on March 7 to promoting a sexual performance by a child.

The DA says a search of electronic devices from his home turned up more than 900 videos of child sexual abuse.

The investigation then revealed that Gil was secretly installing video cameras in the bathrooms of families he knew. They captured videos of both minors and adults.

Brown says the public should be aware that in the eyes of the law, such images are essentially "crime scene photos."
