Super heroes take over WACS

June 25, 2017
Westfield Republican

Westfield Academy and Central School's PBIS Team (Positive Behavioral Interventions Support) hosted a PAWSITIVELY Powerful Super Hero themed elementary incentive day recently.

Students and staff dressed in Super Hero inspired attire and participated in Super Hero themed games, contests, and activities as a reward for reaching the next Westfield Pride Paw Print goal.

As we know, READING is a fantastic SUPER POWER! Starting our day with a STAR (Share the Art of Reading) program hosted by First Graders, sharing various ways we can all act like Super Heroes and protect our Earth, was perfect. Great Job, First Graders!

Westfield Academy and Central School students learned that “Reading is super power!”

In keeping with the PBIS Team's 2017 initiative of increasing school unity, to the already important goals of creating a safe, healthy and positive school environment, the team asked the fourth and fifth graders to take a leadership role in the day's festivities. These grade levels were asked to help run the "Minute to Win It" style games that the Kindergarten, first and second graders had earned with their 600+ PAWS. Catch the Joker, Bat Bling, Caught in a Web, and Hulk Smash were just a few of the activities the 4th and 5th graders led. WOW! POW! BAM! They did an excellent job in this leadership role. Thank you, 4th and 5th grades.

The finale had the entire elementary school gathered in the high school gymnasium to cheer on our 4th and 5th grade friends as they competed in a "Battle of the Classes" style competition. Events such as Super Strength Tug, Hero Relay Race, and Don't Drop the Kryptonite were in the line-up along with a few Dance -offs during event breaks. All participants made us PAWSITIVELY PAWS PROUD as they exemplified such positive character traits as dedication, teamwork and perseverance.
