SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — The 86-year-old driver of a pickup truck that killed a 43-year-old college professor and injured her mother near Syracuse University won't face criminal charges.

Syracuse police say James McDonald, of Chittenango, has been ticketed for passing a red light and failure to keep right.

Jennifer Cook and her mother were walking along a city street in mid-March when McDonald's pickup truck veered across the road and hit them. Jennifer Cook died in a nearby hospital, while her mother suffered critical injuries but was later released.

Cook, a college English professor from Rhode Island, was in central New York to visit her ailing 93-year-old father. He died two weeks after the accident.
