NY man dies in Connecticut tree cutting mishap

June 12, 2014
Associated Press

MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) — A man from upstate New York has died after an accident during a utility company's tree-cutting project in Connecticut.

Meriden police announced Thursday that 26-year-old Frank Cline died after a tree limb struck him in the head and landed on him Monday. Cline lived in Dover Plains, New York, near the Connecticut border and worked for Tree Inc. of Houston.

Police say another worker had tied off the tree limb as a precaution, but it began swinging after he cut it and it struck Cline.

Cline later died at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Tree Inc. was working for Connecticut Light & Power Co., which has been aggressive in tree trimming after storms in recent years caused wide-ranging power outages.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was called in to investigate.
