May 25, 2016
Westfield Republican

The Westfield Farmers' and Artisans' Market opens its 10th season Saturday at 9 a.m. in Moore Park.

Shoppers will see many familiar vendors and some new, like Green Heron Growers and Maple Run Country Farms. The market features local products grown or made by vendors. Shoppers will see fresh fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, grass-fed beef, pork, goat, chicken and lamb, tallow and lard, local eggs, baked goods, soap, maple syrup, honey and a variety of hand-crafted items ranging from mittens to sculptures.

Guitarist Tom Troccoli will be back with his repertoire of rock, blues, jazz and folk. He's written a theme song for the market. Ivory Wind Acres owners Rachel Gardner and Sean Mapes return with a new farm-to-fork menu of prepared food items built around farm-raised, grass-fed meats. The farmers' market organization will serve hot coffee from the information booth near the gazebo.

Not-for-profit organizations like the First Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis and the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation will use the market opportunity to share information and engage in fundraising activity.

Special events this year include sharing Moore Park with members of the 9th New York Cavalry on June 11 as part of the annual Civil War Reenactment. Art in the Park takes place on June 25 when Westfield Plein Air artists will set up their easels to capture market scenes on canvas. The Market shares the park with YWCA Westfield Arts and Crafts Festival on July 29 and 30. The Blueberry Festival and Dining in Denim pop-up community picnic will take place on Aug. 6.

The produce vendors accept SNAP EBT and WIC and FMNP coupons.

The market is open each Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., from Memorial Day weekend through September, in Moore Park, at the intersection of Portage Street (Route 394) and Main Street (Route 20) in Westfield. Farmers and artisans interested in applying for the 2016 season can download an application from the market website at, or inquire by email to: or by mail to 9041 East Lake Road, Westfield, NY, 14787.
