Spann endorsed by Chautauqua County Democratic Committee

The Democratic Party has endorsed James Spann for Chautauqua County Family Court Judge. The Chautauqua County Democratic Committee met on Monday, July 7, in Mayville, NY. The attendees were comprised of north and south county delegates that resulted in the tallying of votes to officiate the endorsement.

For over 29 years, attorney James Spann has been practicing law in Dunkirk, NY. He has handled thousands of matrimonial and family matter cases. Spann was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1985, as well as Washington, D.C., the U. S. District Court and the Western District of New York. He has been a board member for family matters in Chautauqua County. Spann was a guest lecturer for the PEACE Program.

Since 1987, Spann has served as Westfield Justice. He has been appointed and elected as the acting village Justice and town Justice. "I have been honored to serve my community as my father has in past years. He served as the Village Justice while working at our family dry cleaning business," stated Spann.

A life-long resident of Chautauqua County, Spann resides in Westfield with his wife, June Miller-Spann and daughters Isabella and Zoe. Isabella graduated high school in May as salutatorian at Mount Mercy Academy. Zoe will be entering seventh grade this fall at Northern Chautauqua Catholic School in Dunkirk. June works at as an Associate Director of Development at Fredonia College, the couple's alma mater. "June and I understand the meaning of hard work and we value community service. We have instilled that ideology in our children."

Both Jim and June lived on Jefferson Street as children, and grew up in extended families. "Culturally we are in a transition period where the definition of family is evolving. As this transition occurs, often families look to the court system for assistance. This has contributed to the increased use of family court. Years of experience, along with my dedication to children and families, qualifies me to serve as family court judge. I have the ability to impact the Chautauqua County Family Court in a positive way," said Spann.

"It would be an honor to use my knowledge and experience to help the children and families of Chautauqua County. I have found that every person who appears in court wants to have their story told, they want their matter handled in an efficient and timely-fashion. I view this as a fairness which needs to be granted to each individual who appears before the bench. I pledge that as Chautauqua County Family Court Judge, I would be dedicated to professionalism equality, and compassion. I want to help the people who reside in our communities," stated Spann.

The Primary election for Chautauqua County Family Court Judge will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014.
