Letter to the Editor

Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Dear Editor:

Our family car suffered significant damage while my wife, friends, and I were traveling through the Westfield, New York area on vacation. Though it was our bad luck to have this happen several hundred miles away from home, and on a Sunday evening, it was our good (and amazing) fortune for the car to break down on West Main Street in Westfield, exactly at the location of Babcock Tire Service.

Wayne Babcock treated us with respect and honesty. He examined our car, gave us an truthful estimate of repairs, allowed the vehicle to remain on his property for three days, and did not charge us anything at all for his time and labor!

The car was damaged too badly to be fixed within our budget, so we decided to leave it in Westfield. That decision helped put us in contact with Terry LaPorte, owner of Joe's Auto Wrecking on North Portage Street. Terry gave us a fair and reasonable payment offer for our car and, like Mr. Babcock, extended every courtesy toward my wife and me.

We are most grateful for the help given to us by these two men! At a time when it could have been easy for them to take financial advantage of the situation, please know that you have in Westfield people who conducted themselves and represented their businesses (and town) with honor and integrity.

With sincere appreciation,

Rob and Wendie Spence
