Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

NORTH EAST, Pa - Local winery Mazza Vineyards brought home 2 double gold medals and a best in show, among other accolades, from the 2014 Pennsylvania Wine Competition in Lancaster at the beginning of this month. Earning a double gold and Best Sweet Wine in Competition was their 2011 Ice Wine of Vidal Blanc, which was created from grapes frozen on the vine, handpicked, and pressed while frozen. Mazza's 2013 Gr?ner Veltliner, crafted from grapes grown nearby on Rassie farms, also earned a double gold.

Mazza wasn't the only local winery to earn awards; three other North East Wineries, Arrowhead Wine Cellars, Courtyard Winery and Presque Isle Wine Cellars each brought home some of their own. Arrowhead's Dazzling Niagara and Courtyard's Chocopelli both earned gold medals.
