WACS participates in Occupational Therapy Awareness Month

May 15, 2014
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Westfield Academy and Central School held its first Occupational Therapy (OT) Awareness Month activity recently.

Approximately 35 children from the YWCA After School Advantage program visited the Westfield Academy and Central School's OT room as part of their library time with Patterson Library Children's Specialist, Amy Stephenson. They met the school's Occupational Therapist Karin Cockram and learned a little bit about what Occupational Therapists do in schools. Then they tried a variety of OT activities including writing while standing on a balance board, using one of the swings, trying out different writing utensils (including weighted wrist animals and tennis ball grips), origami, "I Spy" puzzles, vision tubes and the balance beam.
