Community Yard Sale

The North East Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Community Yard Sale on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Over 100 homes from across the borough and township will participate, rain or shine, in this much-anticipated event. Maps are available starting Wednesday, May 14 at the North East Chamber office, 17 E. Main, and Sander's Market, 109 W. Main, North East, PA. For more information, call the Chamber at 814-725-4262.

Gallery exhibition

The Patterson Library Octagon Gallery is pleased to exhibit the "Stone, Paper, Book" with Timothy Frerichs and Shauna Beckstein." The exhibit will be on view Friday, May 16 from 7-9 p.m. and run through June 27, 2015. Wine for the opening has been generously donated by Johnson Estate. The opening reception is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome. The Patterson Library Octagon Gallery program is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Re-grant Program administered by the Cataraugus County Arts Council. Chicken BBQ

South Ripley Fire Department is hosting a Mother's Day Chicken BBQ and Raffle. BBQ starts at noon and will be served until it's gone. Cost is $9 for adults and $7 for children. Dinner includes chicken, potato salad, applesauce, pickles, roll, coffee or punch and pie. Raffle drawings will follow the dinner. The Fire Department is located at 10268 North East/Sherman Road in Ripley.

Spring Benefit Concert

The Chautauqua County Community Chorale will present the 2014 Spring Benefit concert "Everlasting Arms" on Sunday, May 18 at 4:30 p.m. The event will be held at the United Methodist Church, 101 East Main Street, Westfield. This year's program is entitled "Songs of Faith, Hope and Perseverance." The concert will be directed by Lucy Andrus. It features G. Mary Matteson, accompanist and Heidi Rizzo, soprano soloist. A free will offering may be made for donation to the Brocton Portland Food Pantry.

Vineyard Writers' Conference

Prevention Educator from the Chautauqua County ANEW center

The YWCA Westfield is pleased to invite the public to a presentation from Tracy Jesperson, Prevention Educator from the Chautauqua County ANEW center. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., she will talk about domestic violence awareness and prevention. If you have experienced abuse, work with or live near someone or know anyone who is being abused, this program will give you some insight and valuable information on how to help and where help is available. The program is FREE and open to all. Contact the YWCA at 326-2011 for more information.

A Spring Rummage and Bake Sale is scheduled at the First Presbyterian Church, 49 South Portage Street in Westfield. The three day event begins Tuesday, May 20 from 5 - 7 p.m. and continues Wednesday, May 21 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., concluding Thursday, May 22 with a "Bag Day" from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The menu is chicken, biscuit & gravy, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, vegetable, drink and dessert. Adults are $8 each and children under 10 are $4 each. Come and enjoy. This is always a very popular dinner.
