The Lakeshore Railway Museum at 31 Wall Street, North East, Pa. will celebrate Armed Forces Day on May 17. This event will be free and open to all in remembrance of all who have served in the Armed Forces. Presentation of the colors will be made at 3 p.m. in their honor. Starting at 7 p.m., a movie will be shown which illustrates how important the railroads were in serving the nation during war time. For those of you who have not visited the museum lately, on your next visit, you will see some new displays, including a box cab locomotive built at the Erie GE plant in 1939 and a GE Dash 8 locomotive of this type displayed in a museum in the U.S.
We also have some interesting excursions planned. One excursion will feature a motorcoach ride from the Dunkirk Home Depot to North East and includes a winery tour, a visit to the Lakeshore Railway Museum and ends with a meal in the museum's dining car.
Also, an August trip will take you to "The Age of Steam Roundhouse" in Ohio. This excursion will include shopping at the Amish stores for those who prefer "retail therapy." These excursions are in the planning stages, but more information is available by calling (814) 899-1892 to receive detailed itineraries.
