Dorothy C. Akam, 89 of Mayville, died Saturday (May 3, 2014) at her home.
She was born April 6, 1925 in Sherman, NY, the daughter of the late Clark and Velma Goodwill Chamberlin.
Dorothy had been a Home Care Provider for several years before retiring.
She was a member of the Mayville United Methodist Church and women's groups of the church, The Mayville Loan Closet, she was a community volunteer for various organizations, and she was a Moose Heart Mother.
Dorothy was a loving and devoted Mother who loved her family. She was a very caring person, and she loved watching John Wayne movies.
She is survived by three sons, Tracy Akam of Mayville, Daniel Akam of Mayville, and Scott Johnson of Sherman; three grandchildren, Kyle Akam Jr, Mark Akam and William Akam; three great grandchildren, Marc, Brianne, and Jestin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Akam Sr.; two sons Lyle Akam II, and Larry Akam; and nine siblings.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville. Rev. John Bowen will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m.
