Lady T’birds pick up second win at Grand Strand Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., April 17 - The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds (5-1, 3-0) put together a 16-5 win over the Alabama Bulldogs on Wednesday at the Grand Strand Classic.

Olivia Anderson was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts, five walks and two earned runs on six hits.

The score was knotted 1-1 going into the top of the third before Chautauqua Lake sent 12 batters to the plate to score nine runs.

The big hitter for the day was Kalishia Swoger with two hits and four runs scored. Gina Sena had two hits with a double and Jade Walsh connected for a home run in the third inning, which accounted for three runs.


VanVleck, Murphy pitch Silver Creek to win over Ripley

RIPLEY, April 17 - The Silver Creek Black Knights' (2-1, 0-1) Jeff VanVleck and John Murphy combined to throw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Black Knights downed the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds, 10-1, in non-league baseball action Thursday.

VanVleck got the win by going the first five innings, striking out five while allowing three hits and no runs.

Losing pitcher, Tyler Meredith, went three innings before giving way to Braydyn Wappat for two innings. Alex Disbro finished the game by throwing the final two innings for Chautauqua Lake.

Unearned runs continued to plague the Thunderbirds as they gave up 14 walks while allowing eight hits.

For Silver Creek, Adam Klajbor and Jake Nobisch led the offense with two hits apiece while Murphy added a double and three RBIs.
