Community tennis

Enjoy tennis every Monday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Meet at the courts behind Westfield Academy and Central School to play tennis. The plan is to have enough people to organize several double matches.

Westfield Retiree Golf

The Thursday morning golf league will begin play on April 24 at Pinehurst. Bring your clubs and excuses.

Library Schedules Scrabble Tourney

Jason Kinem and Diane Pugh enjoy a game of Scrabble at Prendergast Library, which will hold its second annual Scrabble tournament from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Admission is $15 to benefit the library. Sign up at the Information Desk or in the Fireplace Room the morning of the event. There will be refreshments for sale and prizes for winners. The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For information, call 484-7135.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 459

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 459 will be holding its April meeting on Sunday, April 27 at the John t. Murray VFW Post No. 1017 located at 113 Deer St. in Dunkirk. If you have any questions please call 366-2287.

Monday April 28

Chautauqua Hiking club Mayville hike

Everyone is welcome to join us for a get out and stretch hike. We are in search of spring. The Chautauqua Hiking Club is planning to hike the section of the Rails to Trails from the Mayville Lakeside Park to Rt 430, and back. This will be a relatively short hike, approx 3 miles. Meet at the Mayville Lakeside Park at 1 p.m. Bring water and a simple trail snack. There will probably be some muddy spots. Dress for the weather, these days who knows what it will be doing! Prevention Educator from the Chautauqua County ANEW center

The YWCA Westfield is pleased to invite the public to a presentation from Tracy Jesperson, Prevention Educator from the Chautauqua County ANEW center. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., she will talk about domestic violence awareness and prevention. If you have experienced abuse, work with or live near someone or know anyone who is being abused, this program will give you some insight and valuable information on how to help and where help is available. The program is FREE and open to all. Contact the YWCA at 326-2011 for more information.

Children ages 4 through Grade 3 are invited to come to Patterson Library at 6:30 p.m. to hear community members share wonderful stories. Registration appreciated - call 326-2154. Refreshments will follow this special library story sharing event.

Parkinson's support group at Westfield Memorial Hospital

Westfield Memorial Hospital's Parkinson's Disease Support Group Meeting is held the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Chicken BBQ

South Ripley Fire Department is hosting a Mother's Day Chicken BBQ and Raffle. BBQ starts at noon and will be served until it's gone. Cost is $9 for adults and $7 for children. Dinner includes chicken, potato salad, applesauce, pickles, roll, coffee or punch and pie. Raffle drawings will follow the dinner. The Fire Department is located at 10268 North East/Sherman Road in Ripley.

Write Now Writer's Group

The Town of Portland's Ahira Hall Memorial Library located in Brocton hosts a writer's group. Any and all are invited to join. Host and published author George Clever will be helping the group explore self- and e-publishing as well. We meet every other Wednesday at 6 p.m. Next meeting is April 30. Community Yard Sale

The North East Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Community Yard Sale on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Over 100 homes from across the borough and township will participate, rain or shine, in this much-anticipated event. Maps are available starting Wednesday, May 14 at the North East Chamber office, 17 E. Main, and Sander's Market, 109 W. Main, North East, PA. For more information, call the Chamber at 814-725-4262.
