Brocton, CLCS start season with victories

BROCTON, April 10 - Brocton's Jess Putcher went the distance in the circle and provided a two-run double in a five-run bottom of the fourth inning as the Lady Bulldogs (1-1, 1-1) held on for a 10-8 CCAA West II softball win over Cassadaga Valley (0-1, 0-1) on Thursday.

Putcher allowed eight runs - four earned - on eight hits while striking out nine and walking three in the win and added three hits at the plate. Also for the Lady Bulldogs, Morgan Bennett and Mackenzie Evans had two hits and two RBI apiece.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, before the Lady Bulldogs broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth. Brocton added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth while Cassadaga Valley scored a run in the fifth, four in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Bre Miller had an RBI double in the loss while losing pitcher Alyssa Hahn added two hits and two RBI while allowing 10 runs (five earned) on eight hits. She struck out five and walked as many.

CLCS hammers Westfield

RIPLEY, April 10 - Ryleigh Hawkins and Ashley Moulton provided the offense Thursday as the Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds (3-0, 3-0) downed Westfield (3-1, 2-1), 12-4, in CCAA West II high school softball.

Hawkins went 3 for 3 with two doubles while Moulton had three hits. Ashton Albanesius picked up a double in the win.

Jade Walsh began the game in the circle for Chautauqua Lake and yielded just two hits and a walk in three innings of work, before being replaced by Olivia Anderson, who struck out four and surrendered just one hit.

Westfield's only hits belonged to Rachel Allen, who had two hits with a double. doubled and a single and Cathryn Catalano singled in defeat.

Chautauqua Lake takes care of Clymer, 25-2

RIPLEY, April 8 - The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds pounded 17 hits and received solid pitching from a trio of hurlers in a 25-2 victory over Clymer on Tuesday in CCAA West II high school softball action.

Olivia Anderson was the starting pitcher and struck out three and allowed two hits in three innings of work. Ashton Albanesius pitched two innings and allowed just one hit with a walk and strikeout. Jade Walsh finished the game with four strikeouts, no walks, three hits and two earned runs.

Emily Corwin led the offense with two triples to go along with her three RBI. Ashley Moulton had two doubles to drive in two runs while Mel McCutcheon had a triple and a single with an RBI for the winners. Courtney Hewes and Walsh each had two hits for the winners.

The Lady Pirates put together six hits. Ama Woods doubled and Lauren Dunnewold tripled in the losing effort.
