Enjoy tennis every Monday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Meet at the courts behind Westfield Academy and Central School to play tennis. The plan is to have enough people to organize several double matches.

The Audubon Society will present a program on "Backyard Birds" at the Ripley Free Library on Thursday, April 17 at 1 p.m. Find out what type of birds are home to this area.a

Preachers From the Pews

First Presbyterian Church of Westfield is hosting a new Lent series every Friday at 7 p.m. throughout the season of Lent. The series titled, "Preachers From the Pews" features a different speaker from our congregation each week who will lead us in a short informal service. The theme for this Lenten series is love. This week the series will feature John Daily as he delivers a message about Everlasting Love. Please join us as we continue on our Lenten journey together experiencing God's radical love. Refreshments will follow the service.

Chautauqua Hiking club Mayville hike

Everyone is welcome to join us for a get out and stretch hike. We are in search of spring. The Chautauqua Hiking Club is planning to hike the section of the Rails to Trails from the Mayville Lakeside Park to Rt 430, and back. This will be a relatively short hike, approx 3 miles. Meet at the Mayville Lakeside Park at 1 p.m. Bring water and a simple trail snack. There will probably be some muddy spots. Dress for the weather, these days who knows what it will be doing! Lenten Service

The Ripley United Methodist Church is holding a Community Lenten Service at Meeder's Restaurant every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. throughout this Lenten season.We will have a light supper of choice of soups, bread and a beverage with a Lenten Service to follow. Everyone is welcome to join in at this holy time and fellowship with us. Meeder's is located on Main Street in Ripley.

WNY Federation of Women's Clubs

The April board meeting of the Western New York Federation of Women's Clubs will be held at Webb's Restaurant, Mayville on Saturday, April 12 with coffee at 10 am.

Annual convention plans will be discussed. Reservations are to be made with Chautauqua chairman Alice Paulus at 716-720-5005.

Library Schedules Scrabble Tourney

Jason Kinem and Diane Pugh enjoy a game of Scrabble at Prendergast Library, which will hold its second annual Scrabble tournament from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Admission is $15 to benefit the library. Sign up at the Information Desk or in the Fireplace Room the morning of the event. There will be refreshments for sale and prizes for winners. The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For information, call 484-7135.

Westfield Retiree Golf

The Thursday morning golf league will begin play on April 24 at Pinehurst. Bring your clubs and excuses.

Great Easter Egg-scapade

The Great Easter Egg-scapade celebration for "walking twos" through fourth grade will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Westfield. There will be a traditional egg dying, an egg hunt and an age appropriate craft. To register please call the church office at 326-2643.

Westfield Memorial Hospital's Parkinson's Disease Support Group Meeting is held the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Chicken BBQ

South Ripley Fire Department is hosting a Mother's Day Chicken BBQ and Raffle. BBQ starts at noon and will be served until it's gone. Cost is $9 for adults and $7 for children. Dinner includes chicken, potato salad, applesauce, pickles, roll, coffee or punch and pie. Raffle drawings will follow the dinner. The Fire Department is located at 10268 North East/Sherman Road in Ripley.

Write Now Writer's Group

The Town of Portland's Ahira Hall Memorial Library located in Brocton hosts a writer's group. Any and all are invited to join. Host and published author George Clever will be helping the group explore self- and e-publishing as well. We meet every other Wednesday at 6 p.m. Next meeting is April 30.
