Lt. Governor for the Southwestern Division of Kiwanis, Mr. Robert Ducato, along with his wife, First Lady Marcia, left Feb. 20-24 for Albany to attend the annual NYS Kiwanis District Mid-Winter Conference.
Along with the Ducatos went much needed items for the troops overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. Items that were shipped were toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, lotion and washcloths.
In NYS District Kiwanis, there are 27 divisions. The Westfield-Ripley Kiwanis Club sent the third largest collection within all of the divisions. In addition to the needed items, the Westfield Builders Club wrote letters to our service people. This project was endorsed by Kiwanis International and NYS District Kiwanis Governor Joe Aiello's wife, First Lady Cookie, "ran with it."
Shortly after arriving in Albany, Kiwanians from across NYS assembled the items and packed them in shoe boxes to be shipped overseas. Ten thousand (10,000) kits were shipped from NYS District Kiwanis, with close to 300 kits coming from the Westfield-Ripley Club.
Kiwanis is the world's largest service organization dedicated to serving and improving the lives of children and families, both locally and globally.
