At Westfield Memorial Hospital, Radiology Department staff and members of the Hospital Board and Foundation celebrated the official opening of the hospital's new Radiology Suite.
The hospital was able to acquire a new GE Proteus radiology system, funded by a grant from the Rural Health Care Access Development Program of the state Department of Health, together with a grant from the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation. The new system provides improved image quality, but the major change is a much higher level of comfort and safety for patients because the table can be moved in any direction. The table hydraulics allow for quick and comfortable positioning for all patients, including children, the injured and handicapped, and the elderly. This can be particularly useful for transferring patients from Emergency Room gurneys.
The funding also provided for upgrades to the hospital's mammography and ultrasound areas, creating more pleasant surrounding and an overall improved patient experience.
