My name is Michael A. Catalano and I am running for Village Trustee of Westfield, NY. I have been a resident of Westfield my whole life and currently reside in the Village of Westfield, as a homeowner, with an amazing supporter of mine, Ms. Ruth Ann Davis. I am the youngest, and possibly the greatest, of six kids born to Ronald and Sally Catalano. I attended Westfield Academy and Central School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1993. Upon Graduation, I entered the workforce and was employed as a welder by Jack's Welding Service, Inc., which is a design and custom metal fabrication shop in Westfield. I am still employed with Jack's Welding Service today and I am currently the Project Manager.
Along with employment after graduation, I started a family, which blessed me with three wonderful children, all of whom attended Westfield Academy, as well. The older two have graduated and moved on in their respective career paths and the youngest will graduate this year and move on to college. I am very proud of all of them and they, along with the rest of their generation, are part of my motivation for running for office. If they decide to stay in the Westfield area, they need Westfield to be an affordable, sustainable, and stable place to live and raise a family of their own. My other motivation, now that my kids are grown and I have more time to serve my community, is to help maintain Westfield's greatness and help improve it in any way I can, for all Westfield residents. Whether it's our youth, young adults, grown-ups, retirees, or elderly, everyone needs to be taken into consideration with every decision that is made.
I have a fairly broad background that I feel will help me identify with all of these age groups. In addition to working in a custom metal fabrication business, I attended JCC for Math and Science, I attended Mercyhurst as part of the Sports Medicine Program, and I coached both Men's and Women's Competitive Gymnastics. Through each of these, I have learned, not only how to identify the root of a problem, but also how to identify a viable solution and implement it. Sometimes you need to be creative and think outside the box to find the right solution even if that means stripping away layers so that a more direct line of communication can be reopened. It's all about PROGRESS over politics. In order to have continued progress, I believe our government officials need to be open and transparent. Above all, they need to listen. If elected, I will have an open door policy and I will listen to you, your questions, your concerns and your ideas. I believe community involvement is critical to the success of our Village. I also believe that by working together with the Town of Westfield, we can accomplish great things.

In these fairly unstable economic times, we need to ensure the best use of our tax dollars by being fiscally responsible. We also need to identify other possible sources of revenue to help offset the rising costs of maintaining and improving our utilities, roads, emergency services and parks. I believe that by capitalizing on our assets, in conjunction with the Town of Westfield and the Westfield Development Corporation, we can work to offset these costs. By taking advantage of assets such as having direct interstate access, being 1 mile from Lake Erie, being 7 miles from Chautauqua Lake, being the home of the Chautauqua Gorge, having our own school, having our own hospital, and being located in the center of Grape Country and the Wine Trail, we can attract new families and businesses, we can still take care of our existing ones, and we can continue to be the greatest village to live in on the northern border of the United States. We can do all this if the politics are set aside and we all work toward Progress. I am looking forward to your support on March 18 and I am looking forward to serving the residents of the Village of Westfield. Thank you.
