CLYMER - Fairway Suites at Peek'n Peak resort in Clymer held the grand opening of its new Aspire Fitness Center on Thursday, Feb. 27.

The new fitness center features 1,700 square feet of state-of-the-art equipment for cardio, yoga, free weights and conditioning with a personal cable television built into most of the equipment. Construction took a year, and the center was designed with comfort in mind.

"The clubhouse and fitness center was added to increase the amenities to our guests that are staying in our rooms and condos," said Jeffrey Mona, president of American Resort Manager. He said fitness centers are typical for resort properties, citing "we wanted to meet and exceed expectations of our guests."

The locker rooms are at a country club level, and due to Fairway Suites having a liquor license, guests can enjoy wine and beer in front of a fireplace in the lobby. Once everything is complete, with the next phase to begin in the spring, the Aspire Fitness Center will have an outdoor, year-round hot tub and fire pit, and a seasonal pool. The fitness center is already looking into expanding its services by having a fitness trainer on staff and reaching out to the community to do seminars in the coming year.

The fitness center also is open to the community - people do not need to be guests to use its facilities.

The idea for a fitness center came directly from Jim Bennett, owner, who, according to Dan Smith, general manager of Fairway Suites and Aspire Fitness, has been an avid athlete his entire life and had the intention for a fitness center since day one.

The fitness center is currently open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day and will be open 24 hours come spring.

Fairway Suites offers everything from a typical hotel room to a condos with a full kitchen and fireplace. Renovations of all the bathrooms will soon be underway in the suites, upgrading them to luxury marble baths.
