The Chautauqua Music Camps has announced that their 2014 edition will feature a chamber music camp for high school students.
This camp is open to students finishing grades 9-12 who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone or tuba by audition only. Accepted students will perform in either a brass or woodwind ensemble and will also serve as the winds section for the orchestra camp.
According to Camp Director Peter Lindblom, "This exciting new offering will be a great addition to our current camp, consisting of middle school band, orchestra and high school jazz. There is no better place than Chautauqua to experience music in the summer."
The trombone chorus takes advantage of open space at the Chautauqua Institute to practice. Music camps will again be offered this summer during August. A chamber music camp has been added to the middle school band, orchestra and high school jazz programs offered last year.
The camp takes place on the grounds of Chautauqua Institution from Aug. 11-16. It functions as a day camp, meaning lodging is not included.
The cost is $200 for early registration for this and the other camps. Interested students should visit the camp website at chautauquamusiccamps.org.
Complete application information and procedures are available there, as well as camp pictures from previous years.
