Winter's wrath can bring some spectacular scenery.
In early January, almost right on cue, the Audubon Center & Sanctuary in Jamestown held a "Searching for Snowy Owls" event in Jamestown. According to a news release, the arctic birds "have flown south in large numbers."
Mike Joy of Portland know this to be true. He was able to capture a photo of it in the town of Dunkirk.
But New York is not alone in the snowy owl sightings. Many have also been seen in Michigan and Ohio.
Recent weather has been kind to the snowy owls of the area. Keep your eyes open for one of nature's gems, which are expected to stay here until the spring.
