Westfield edges Brocton 54-30

BROCTON, Jan. 9 - The Westfield Wolverines (6-1, 3-0) used a 20-2 third-quarter run to leave the Brocton Bulldogs (0-6, 0-3) still searching for their first win of the season, following a 54-30 verdict, Thursday in CCAA West II boys high school basketball.

"We have had a pretty tough schedule," Brocton coach Jeff Franze said. "Five of our six opponents were quality teams."

The visitors held a slim 26-21 halftime advantage before the Wolverines went on a decisive 20-2 run to put the game away.

Tanner Dahl led Westfield with 15 points while Jacob Gray had 14.

Machalam Buchanan was the Bulldogs' leading scorer with nine points.

CLCS girls roll to victory over Sherman

MAYVILLE, Jan. 11 - Four players hit double figures as Chautauqua Lake put on a dominant performance Friday night, posting a 69-33 victory over Sherman (2-1) in Division 2 West girls basketball for its third league win of the season.

The Lady Thunderbirds (3-0, 6-1) scored early and often, leading by 35-16 at the half and were topped by Ashton Albanesius and Courtney Hughes with 14 points, Jenna Einink had 13 points with seven steals and Tara Hunt added 11 points.

Albanesius also hit the double-double with 12 rebounds, Riley Hawkins also pulled down 12 rebounds and Hughes had five steals.

For the Lady Wildcats, Shenley Luden and Talia Coccurelli both produced seven points and Roxanne Toy had five rebounds.

Clymer girls knocks off rust with victory

CLYMER, Jan. 11 - After not playing a game for 21 days, Clymer showed no signs of rust as the Lady Pirates picked up their second Division 2 West win of the year by routing Cassadaga Valley, 70-33.

Clymer held an 11-point lead after one quarter and got into foul trouble in the second, but pulled away in the final two periods with 38 total points, led by Brianna Summers with 13 points.

MJ Trisket had 11 points and six rebounds, Christie Reinwald also netted 11 points, Kayla Gilkinson added 10 points and seven steals and Becca King contributed 10 points with five assists.

For the Lady Cougars (0-2, 0-7), Preslie Johnson scored 13 points.
