SINCLAIRVILLE, Jan. 9 - The Cassadaga Valley Cougars (6-2, 2-0) held on for a 41-38 victory over Clymer (4-4, 0-3) on Thursday in CCAA West II boys high school basketball.
The Cougars used a 14-7 lead in the first quarter to keep the Pirates at bay throughout. Trailing 34-24 heading into the final frame, the Pirates mounted a comeback and got within three points of the lead several times, but could not tie the game or take the lead.
In the final seconds, the Cougars missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Clymer grabbed the rebound for one final offensive possession and a chance to tie the game. However, a 3-point attempt was off the mark and the Cougars held on for the victory.
