MAYVILLE - On Jan. 2, 22 people met at the Mayville VFW for lunch. Diane Goodrich gave devotion with two funny stories. She asked for a moment of silence in memory of two members, Elizabeth Alday and Fran Freay. Secretary and treasurer's reports were read and accepted.

Three thank you notes for gifts were read. Gifts were given to the VFW, VFW Auxiliary and a needy family in the community. January birthdays for lifetime members were Gerald Thompson, James Stacey and Naomi Wiler. Other birthdays were Jeanne Rhinehart, Maxine Francis, Alma Sheperd, Sharon Crandall, Barb Witherall, Sandra Chandler, and one anniversary for Dick and Joanne Westphal.

Janice Loomis stated that trips were being worked on and a list will be prepared for 2014. Kitchen committee was Fran Miller, Laona Boser, Karen Horton and Bonnie Johnson. Bonnie Johnson won the lottery drawing. Three door prizes were won by Gerald White, Sandra Wagner and Wanda Gustafson. One guest was Shelly Tornstrom. Nettie Moore entertained the group with her lively piano music.

The speaker for the Jan. 16 meeting will be Lt. Col. Tim Wright of Frewsburg. He has been deployed to Afghanistan several times. He will show some of his experiences with an excellent power point presentation. All seniors are asked to attend to show our support for his service to the country.
