Neal I. Franklin

Neal I. Franklin, 72, of Park Avenue, Dunkirk, formerly of Forestville, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Silver Creek, on September 23, 1941, the son of the late Howard and Dorothy (Waterman) Franklin.

Mr. Franklin was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1960 and worked as an Assistant Stationary Engineer at Lakeview Shock Facility, Brocton, for 14 years, retiring in 2003. Mr. Franklin, at one time, also worked as an Artificial Inseminator for Eastern Co-op for 12 years, owned & operated a dairy farm at Parcell's Corners in Forestville and worked as a truck driver for the former R&L Smith Trucking, South Dayton and Benchley Construction of Silver Creek. He was an exempt member of Randolph Fire Department and 1st Assistant Chief for 3 years, was a former Board member for the Town of Randolph for 8 years and a member of Dunkirk Moose Lodge #89. Mr. Franklin enjoyed playing Euchre, making popcorn with his grandchildren, going to Horse Pulls and he loved his family very much.

Survivors include his Loving Companion Peggy Spears of Forestville, three daughters, Elaine (Nathan) Hayes and Diane Franklin, both of South Hadley, MA, Janeane (Joseph) DiCara, of Dunkirk, a brother, Kenneth Franklin, of Chardon, OH and a sister, Catherine (Michael) Gruber, of Forestville. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Zhanna Hayes, Jack Chagnon, Evan & Molly DiCara, his former wife Jane (Doug) Frink of Dunkirk and several nieces & nephews.

Friends were welcomed to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday, Jan. 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from where Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with Rev. James D. Hankey, pastor of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiated. Interment followed in Perrysburg Cemetery.
