BEMUS POINT - The Fredonia Lady Hillbillies (3-0, 1-0) had six different players score in helping knock off the Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons (1-3, 0-2), 53-46, Monday in CCAA West 1 girls high school basketball action.
Fredonia's Morgan Genovese led the way with 14 points while Caitlyn Cybart had nine.
After both teams battled to an 8-all tie after the first quarter, the Lady Hillbillies went on a 20-13 run in the second quarter for a lead they would never surrender.
"That was a big (quarter) for them," Maple Grove coach Mary Bartkowski said. "They're aggressive and both teams played very well. Other than that (quarter), we played them even."
Frankie Sysol pulled down 10 rebounds while Alicia Deering and Krista Wheelock each had six for the winners.
The Lady Red Dragons received 15 points and seven rebounds from Alison Winchester while Emily Swanson had 10 points and five boards. Morgan Lehman contributed with seven rebounds and four steals.
"Both teams played very well," Bartkowski said. "Fredonia has a really nice team. I'm very pleased with my girls and how they kept it close throughout."
