Just Outside My Door

Just six more days until Christmas and oh so much to do!

Probably many of you are feeling like that just now for there's always so many things one wants to get done before the big day arrives. Although I too have many things to finish, I'm trying to enjoy and savor every aspect of the Christmas season. If I don't get all on my list done, I'm not going to worry because the reason for this season is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ who came to earth to die on the cross and rose the third day to become the propitiation for all man's sin if they will repent and accept Him as their savior. The old saying that "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" is not true. Worship Christ on that day set apart to worship and honor Him.

We have been enjoying all the beauty we have seen in towns and villages everywhere we have gone. Our small village in Sherman is no exception. We enjoy the colored lights that zigzag over Main Street and businesses are also decorated with similar lights and other things representing the holiday. There's a decorated Christmas tree in front of the stores, decorated with lights and the names of friends and relatives that are no longer with certain families because of their deaths. Santa's sleigh loaded with gifts sits beside the tree. Streets are decorated with snowmen.

All of the aforesaid brings the Christmas Spirit alive along with the special programs of the season, its carols and parties in the churches, the school and in homes. Many of them refer to the coming of Christ in Bethlehem. I'm sure you have all heard and maybe even memorized the poem "The night before Christmas." This is another one of the same title, but it has a real meaning in it.

Twas the night before Christmas

And all through the town,

Not a sign of Baby Jesus

Was anywhere to be found.

The people were all busy

With Christmas time chores

Like decorating, and baking

And shopping in stores.

No one sang "Away in a manger,

No crib for a bed,"

Instead, they sang of Santa

Dressed-up in bright red.

Mama watched Martha Stewart,

Papa drank milk from a tap.

As hour upon hour

The presents they'd wrap.

When what from the T. V.

Did they suddenly hear?

Cept an ad which told

Of a big sale at Sears.

So away to the mall

They all flew like a flash

Buying things on credit

And others with cash!

And, as they made their way home

From their trip to the mall,

Did they Think about Jesus?

Oh no, not at all.

Their lives were so busy

With their Christmas time things

No time to remember

Christ Jesus, the King.

There were presents to wrap

And cookies to bake,

How could they remember

Who died for their sakes?

To pray to the Savior

They had no time to stop,

Because they needed more time

To "Shop till they dropped!"

On Walmart! On K-Mart!

On Target! On Penny's!

On Hallmark! On Zales!

A quick lunch at Denny's

From the big stores downtown

To the stores at the mall

They would dash away, dash away,

And visit them all!

And up on the roof,

There arose such a clatter

As grandpa hung icicle lights

Up on his brand new stepladder.

He hung lights that would flash.

He hung lights that would twirl.

Yet , he never once prayed to Jesus,

Light of the world.

Christ's eyes-how they twinkle

Christ's Spirit-how merry!

Christ's love-how enormous!

All our burdens-He'll carry!

So instead of being busy,

Overworked, and uptight,

Let's put Christ back in

Christmas and enjoy

Some good nights!

I hope you all take that advice now and on Christmas. I wish you all a very enjoyable and blest Christmas remembering how Christ came those many years ago, born in a manger, to live a perfect life on earth for 30 years and then he was crucified on a cross to pay for our sins. All we have to do is repent and accept His sacrifice as payment for our sins and God's Word says we will live eternally with Him in a place He is preparing for those who make that discussion. You can read all of the aforesaid in the Bible in both the old Testament and new Testament. I pray you will seek Him this Christmas if you don't already have a personal relationship with Him now.
