Donald K. Ryberg Jr., a retired vice president at Welch Foods and an Army veteran of World War II, died Sunday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 89.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Ryberg was a graduate of Syracuse University and a member of an Army engineering unit that landed at Normandy Beach, France, in June 1944.
He was a lifelong resident of this area, living in Buffalo, Westfield and, most recently, the Weinberg Campus in Getzville.

Mr. Ryberg had worked in design management and personnel at Bell Aircraft Corp. for about three years. He then worked for about 25 years for Welch Foods in Westfield, where he was vice president for human resources and labor relations. He retired in 1985.
He also was a Civil War lecturer and author, and an antiques dealer.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Jacquelyn I. Ross; three sons, Donald K. III, Paul D. and Nicholas J.; and a daughter, Monica K. Balon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Victory Basilica, Ridge Road and South Park Avenue, Lackawanna.
