Beginner's Quilting Class at the Ripley Free Library

Join our Beginner's Quilting Class at the Ripley Free Library. The class meets every Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. If you've always wanted to learn how to quilt but thought it was too complicated, now is your chance to mark it off your bucket list. For more information call 736-3913."

Exploring Pastels art class

Local artist, Alberta Parker, will conduct a 4-week class in Exploring Pastels. Registration required. Call the library for additional information. Patterson Library is located at 40 South Portage Street in Westfield. The classes began Oct. 3 and will run through Oct. 24. These classes are free to attend and begin at 6:00 p.m. Call 716-326-2154 for more information.

Foreign Film Faire

Patterson Library in Westfield will be hosting a Foreign Film Faire on Oct. 24 from 6-8 p.m. This month, attendees will view the Japanese film "The Twilight Samurai," a classic tale of honor, love and courage. This event is free and for more information call 716-326-2154.

Friday, Oct. 25

Warm coat drive

The Westfield Academy & Central School 2014 Yearbook Production class is holding a warm coat drive. Please consider donating gently used or new coats of all sizes to our cause. We are accepting both children and adult coats. Coats can be dropped off in Ms. Abbey's room 236 or left at reception. We are also holding a drop off on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9-11 a.m. in the school lobby. Thank you for considering helping the members of our community.

Mexican Fiesta Harvest Dinner

The First Presbyterian Church, located at 49 South Portage St. in Westfield, will be hosting a Mexican Fiesta Harvest Dinner from 5-6:30 p.m. The cost for adults is $10, children 10 and under $5. All dinners include beverage and homemade dessert. Sit down, takeout or delivery available. For delivery please call the church office at 326-2643 before noon the day of the dinner. The proceeds from the dinner will benefit building restoration and Mission/Outreach Projects. For more information please call the church office at 326-2643. We welcome the community to join us!

Saturday, Oct. 26

Community Harvest Dinner

Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist church will have a free Community Harvest Dinner with turkey and all the trimmings. It will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. The church is located on Route 430 at Meadows Road in Dewittville.

Halloween Hoe-down

The Sherman Chamber of Commerce, The Sherman Day Committee and The Stanley Hose Firemen have teamed up to present a Halloween Hoe-down on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Sherman Firehall from 6:30 - 11 p.m. The Fall Harvest dinner will be the firemen's famous chicken barbecue with sides, appetizers and desserts. The dinner music will be provided by "The Good for Nuthin'" string band with a square and contra dance following. Music and calling provided by "FidDulAcc." Costumes are encouraged as there will be prizes for the best costumes, but they are not required. There will be 50/50 drawings and raffles all through the evening. Tickets are $15 pre-sale/ $20 at the door; $5 for the dance only. Tickets available at RoseLynns Emporium, Miss Laura's, Mozzarella Madness, Tex's Quick Stop, and the Sherman Village Office. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 459 meeting

On Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. the Vietnam Veterans of America Chautauqua County Chapter #459 will be holding a meeting at John T. Murphy VFW Post #1017 located at 113 Deer St. in Dunkirk, NY. All Vietnam -era veterans are invited.

Community tennis

Enjoy tennis every Monday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Meet at the courts behind Westfield Academy and Central School to play tennis. The plan is to have enough people to organize several double matches.

Mayville T.O.P.S. meeting

Mayville T.O.P.S. NY 1337 meets every Tuesday at the Mayville United Methodist Church on South Erie St. Weigh in starts at 5 p.m., with program starting at 5:30 p.m. Join in to Take Off Pounds Sensibly with a great support group, fun contests and awards. Any questions, call 753-3419 or 386-6075.

Westfield T.O.P.S. meeting

Christmas Craft Bazaar

Alexander Findley Library is set to host a Christmas Craft Bazaar with hand-made crafts and baked goods by several crafters and bakers as well as homemade lunch for purchase throughout the show. Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, free door prize drawings and free admission. All proceeds to benefit the local library. This event will be held at the Lake Erie Fire Hall on Main Street in Findley Lake. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Annual Silent Auction

The Ripley Free Library will be hosting their Annual Silent Auction on Saturday, November 2. Doors open at noon. There will be many items to choose from including toys, games, gift certificates galore, a lamp, beautiful picture roughly 45 x 34 and so much more. Plus a Chinese auction and a bake sale. Start your Christmas shopping early!

Parkinson's support group at Westfield Memorial Hospital

Westfield Memorial Hospital's Parkinson's Disease Support Group Meeting is held the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Mayville Senior Citizens

The Mayville Senior Citizens Club meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Mayville VFW at noon. All area seniors 55 or older are welcome. Bring a dish to pass and personal table service.

Parkinson's support group at Absolut Care in Westfield

The Absolut Care of Westfield's Parkinson's Disease Support Group Meeting is held the second Thursday of the month in the Absolut Care Activity Room from 4 to 5 p.m.

Westfield Senior Citizens

The Westfield Senior Citizens meet on the second Thursday of the month at the YWCA Westfield at 12 p.m. For more information, call Shirley Kolpien at 326-3576.
