Beginner's Quilting Class at the Ripley Free Library

Join our Beginner's Quilting Class at the Ripley Free Library. The class meets every Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. If you've always wanted to learn how to quilt but thought it was too complicated, now is your chance to mark it off your bucket list. For more information call 736-3913."

Exploring Pastels art class

Local artist, Alberta Parker, will conduct a 4-week class in Exploring Pastels. Registration required. Call the library for additional information. Patterson Library is located at 40 South Portage Street in Westfield. The classes began Oct. 3 and will run through Oct. 24. These classes are free to attend and begin at 6:00 p.m. Call 716-326-2154 for more information.

Mayville Senior Citizens

The Mayville Senior Citizens Club meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Mayville VFW at noon. All area seniors 55 or older are welcome. Bring a dish to pass and personal table service.

Octagon Art Gallery Opening Reception

From 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Oct. 18 the public is invited to enjoy "Things That Go Bump in the Night", a Halloween themed exhibit for art gallery artists and visitors.

Saturday, Oct. 19

Babysitting Clinic

Boys and girls ages 11-15 are invited to the Babysitting Clinic held at the YWCA. Registration is $25 and seating is limited. Call the YWCA at 326-2011 to register. Class begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m.; bring a bag lunch. Those attending will learn child care techniques, emergency procedures and responsible decision making.

The Westfield/Mayville Rotary Club's annual God Rush

The Westfield/Mayville Rotary Club's annual God Rush is scheduled for at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in Eason Hall, 27 Elm St., Westfield. Chance to win $1,000 grand prize or any amount from $50, $100, $125, 150 or $200. $30 ticket includes chance to win and dinner. Dinner includes BBQ chicken, rigs, baked macaroni and cheese, corn bread and a fresh summer salad, dessert and coffee or tea. Included with ticket will be free beer and soda, or bring your own hors d'oeuvres and beverage.

There will also be a 50/50 drawing and a wine raffle. Ticket holders need not be present to win. Tickets are still available from any Rotarian or by calling Chairman Adam Dimitri at 716-326-4414.

Pistol permit class

Westfield Fish & Game will be hosting a pistol permit class at 1 p.m. located at their Ogden Rd. location in Westfield. You must pre-register by calling Dave Nichols at 581-0739.

Pancake Breakfast

Stanley Hose Auxiliary will host a pancake breakfast on October 20, 2013 at The Sherman Fire Hall from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $6.00 per person, children 5 and under are $3.00. Breakfast includes: pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and drink.

Community tennis

Enjoy tennis every Monday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Meet at the courts behind Westfield Academy and Central School to play tennis. The plan is to have enough people to organize several double matches.

Mayville T.O.P.S meeting

Mayville T.O.P.S NY 1337 meets every Tuesday at the Mayville United Methodist Church on South Erie St. Weigh in starts at 5 p.m., with program starting at 5:30 p.m. Join in to Take Off Pounds Sensibly with a great support group, fun contests and awards. Any questions, call 753-3419 or 386-6075.

Blue Marble at Patterson Library

The Patterson Library in Westfield will be "Blue Marble" to explore issues through Documentary Film and Non-Fiction Books. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and is free to attend. Please call 716-326-2154.

Nutrition Program

Cheryl Wahlstrom will present a nutrition program, "Aging Successfully" at the Ripley Free Library on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. Plan on attending this informative meeting and receive some great tips to healthier living. Refreshments will be served.

Westfield T.O.P.S. meeting

Take Off Pounds Sensibly meet every Wednesday in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Main St., Westfield. Weigh in starts at 6 p.m., followed by a program. For more information, call Ann Cochran at 326-2248 or Shirley Kolpien at 326-3376.

Foreign Film Faire

Patterson Library in Westfield will be hosting a Forign Film Faire on Oct. 24 from 6:00-8:00 pm. This month, attendees will view the Japanese film "The Twilight Samurai", a classic tale of honor, love and courage. This event is free and for more information call 716-326-2154.

Saturday, Oct. 26

Community Harvest Dinner

Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist church will have a free Community Harvest Dinner with turkey and all the trimmings. It will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. The church is located on Route 430 at Meadows Road in Dewittville.

Halloween Hoe-down

The Sherman Chamber of Commerce, The Sherman Day Committee and The Stanley Hose Firemen have teamed up to present a Halloween Hoe-down on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Sherman Firehall from 6:30 - 11 p.m. The Fall Harvest dinner will be the fireman's famous chicken BBQ with sides, appetizers and desserts. The dinner music will be provided by "The Good for Nuthin'" string band with a square and contra dance following. Music and calling provided by "FidDulAcc". Costumes are encouraged as there will be prizes for the best costumes, but they are not required. There will be 50/50 drawings and raffles all through the evening. Tickets are $15 pre-sale/ $20 at the door; $5 for the dance only. Tickets available at RoseLynns Emporium, Miss Laura's, Mozzarella Madness, Tex's Quick Stop, and the Sherman Village Office. The Absolut Care of Westfield's Parkinson's Disease Support Group Meeting is held the second Thursday of the month in the Absolut Care Activity Room from 4 to 5 p.m.
