Exempt Association purchases cold water suits

October 10, 2013
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

The Fire Department of Westfield recently found out that some of their cold water rescue suits had deteriorated to the point that they could not safely be used by its members. Previously, there had been very small areas on the suits that had been patched but it was determined that this would not be feasible anymore. At the Aug. 8 meeting of the Westfield Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Association, the membership voted to purchase three new cold water suits for the Fire Department, valued at approximately $3,000.

The new suits are very similar to the yellow Mustang suits, but have a couple of added features. Since the suits are "one size fits all", suspenders inside each suit enable a better fit for both large and small personnel. The suspenders also allow the upper part of the suit to be removed without having to take the entire suit off the upper portion will hang down from the waist. Another feature is a burp valve to release air from inside the suit. The new suits were put into service as of September 14th.
