Dragons earn tie in two OTs

Sept. 27 - Westfield-Brocton and Maple Grove (6-2-1) battled through two overtimes, but neither team gained the advantage and the result was a 1-1 tie in West Division boys soccer on Friday night.

Riley Beaton scored the game's first goal, assisted by Andy Farnham, for the Red Dragons at the 29-minute mark.

The score remained the same until Bryce Bentham tied it with just 10 minutes left, assisted by Jake Fish before heading into two scoreless periods.

Kyle Richardson was in goal for Maple Grove and had one save.

For Westfield/Brocton, Ty Bentham collected eight saves.

Girls Soccer

Hewes scores four goals in Lady Thunderbirds' win

Sept. 25 - MAYVILLE - Courtney Hewes tallied four goals and keeper Rachael Fortney was perfect in net as the Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds downed Dunkirk, 5-0, in a West Division girls soccer game Tuesday.

Jade Walsh added the final goal on a second-half penalty kick. Registering assists were Kourtney Shearer, Emiley Corwin and Courtney Zentz.

Fortney made seven saves for the Lady Thunderbirds (2-6-1), who led 3-0 at halftime.

SWCS edges W/B

Sept. 25 - WESTFIELD - Southwestern traveled to take on Westfield/Brocton (0-5-1) and both teams were locked up in a tense struggle, but the Lady Trojans (2-5-1) finally broke through for a hard-fought 1-0 win.

Neither team could find the net through the first half, but Southwestern's Nicole Cooper came through with the lone goal of the game eight minutes into the second half, assisted by Ashley Carnes.

Britta Johnson made six saves in earning the win in goal for the Lady Trojans.

Taylor Kassman had 15 saves for Westfield/Brocton.

Girls Volleyball

Lady Pirates Record Sweep Against Cassadaga Valley

Sept. 26 - SINCLAIRVILLE - Clymer evened its league record to 3-3 and went to 3-4 overall in beating Cassadaga Valley (1-5, 1-10), 25-17, 25-16, 25-19, in West Division 2 girls volleyball on Thursday.

Christy Reinwald recorded six kills, Carly McAfoose seven assists, four points and two aces and Marissa Trisket five digs, three kills, two aces and seven points in the win.

For Cassadaga Valley, Hope Zielinski had six kills, a dig and four aces; Heather Dorler a kill, two aces and two digs ; and Brooke Johnson had five assists and an ace.

In the junior varsity match, Cassadaga Valley was victorious.

Panama tops MGHS

Sept 26 - Visiting Panama raised the overall record to 6-3 and 5-1 in the Division by beating Maple Grove, 25-6, 25-22, 25-11.

Brittany Lenart recorded five aces, four kills; Taylor Bowen recorded an ace, six assists and two kills; Carly Abbate had three aces, four assists and two kills; and Kalli Davenport three aces, a kill and a dig for Panama.

For Maple Grove (0-7, 0-8), Sierra Harrison had two aces, four assists and 15 digs; Nicole Hemminger an ace, three kills and seven digs; and Jazmine Hannold 15 assists.

Panama took the junior varsity match, 25-3, 25-10, 25-12.
