The participants of the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers, Inc. four Senior Day programs took a step back in time to the days of the "Old West." Each year the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers, Inc. has a huge picnic at Midway Park with great food, entertainment and a theme. This year's theme was "The Old West". Decorations made by the participants from all the programs highlighted the theme of the picnic and were displayed all over the picnic area. Over 200 people attended the picnic which took place in two pavilions. Participants, family members, friends and dignitaries attended the event.
And as part of the Old West theme there was the all time American favorite for lunch, grilled hot dogs and chocolate sundaes. The all time picnic favorite "grilled hot dogs", were grilled to perfection by Office for the Aging and Department of Health staffers and long time friends of the agency, Allison Espin and Kate Finch.
This year, the agency was able to raise money to help offset the cost of the event. The agency and its partner, the Chautauqua County Office for the Aging staff held a fundraiser in Mayville in the county buildings to raise money to hold the picnic for the older adults who attend the program. The agency was also pleased that it received a donation from the St. James Thrift Store that helped pay for the pavilions at the park. Karen Lucks, Associate Director commented, "With funding very limited for such events that the seniors enjoy coming to, the agency is grateful to everyone at Office for the Aging and the St. James Thrift Store that helped with our fundraising efforts. Many of the people who attend our program never get the opportunity to participate in such a fun event and seeing the smiles on everyone's faces show the true value of having such an event. Everyone looks forward to the picnic each year and it is one of the agency's most enjoyed activities."

In addition to the many fun games and contests, the participants and guests were entertained by Country Music favorites, the "Rustic Ramblers". The band got everybody up on their feet dancing and swinging to county music.
The Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers, Inc. also worked together with the Jamestown Area Meals on Wheels and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program to help provide an all around good time for the Senior Day Program participants.
Karen Lucks also added, "The preparation, planning and physical work to have our picnic each year to the level of quality we want for our participants is a major undertaking. We are fortunate to have the dedicated, hard working staff and volunteers we have. They give it their all to have a special fun and memorable experience for the participants and family members who attend the picnic. It takes a team and our volunteers and staff are what make it happen!"
