WESTFIELD - The caring continued Tuesday as volunteers in white shirts could be seen here for the United Way's 11th annual Community Caring Week. Volunteers from Welch's consumer affairs department and members of the National Grape Co-op, owners of the juice company, took their skills and good will to the YWCA to help with landscaping.

The consumer affairs co-workers Rose Spicer, Sue Yokom, Sue Reed and Amy Patmore and co-op member Richard Erdle took up rakes and shovels to weed the flower beds as co-op member Tim Buss used the trimmers shape the bushes.

"We wanted to contribute to the community. Our groups are helping work with the United Way and doing stuff that the staff can't get done every day," Erdle said.

YWCA Director Katie Smith said they are grateful for the help.

"They are such a big help," Smith said. "We have a small staff and we don't have the capacity to take care of this. It is wonderful they are here to help."

Spicer said this is the consumer affairs department's second year volunteering for Community Caring Week.

"We work together as a department because we all support the United Way, but also because we look at this as a team building exercise while being able to help others," Spicer added.

Volunteers from other organizations will help with projects throughout Chautauqua County until Friday. Anyone interested in volunteering this week can contact the United Way Office in Dunkirk at 366-5424. The United Way is always looking for volunteers year round. Those interested can visit www.volunteerwny.org for more information.
